Day 1 focused on informing CAAP front line officers (from the CAAP services and area centers) on the Air Passenger Bill of Rights and the Freedom of Information (FOI) program with Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) chief legal officer Wyrlou Samodio and FOI program representatives Joan Michelle Antonio and Kate Referendor.

On Day 2, the participants learned about the basics of crisis communication and how to establish good relations with the media from Philippine Airlines spokesperson Cielo Villaluna, Cebu Pacific spokesperson Charo Logarta, DZRH vice president Deo Macalma, and Hataw Tabloid publisher Jerry Yap.

Representing the DOTr, Asec. Goddes Hope Libiran, meanwhile, discussed the structure and divisions of DOTr Communications.

Later in the afternoon, multiplatform journalists Jacque Manabat (ABS-CBN) and Gerard de la Peña (TV5) discussed how journalists find the heart of the story and gave tips on how to handle the press. Jacque and Gerard capped off the workshop by engaging the participants in a simulation, where the participants answered questions from the media during a pretend press briefing after an aviation-related crisis.

Through the workshop, the CAAP hopes to strengthen its public relations by equipping its Area Managers and front line officers with knowledge and by creating an integrated internal communication flow. Aside from these, the workshop also introduced and set up the Facebook pages of the CAAP area centers that can now be found on the “Pages Liked by This Page” section of the CAAP official Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/caaphilippines).
