OZAMIZ CITY – President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday led the groundbreaking ceremonies for the development of Ozamiz Airport in Barangay Labo, Ozamiz City in Misamis Occidental.
Spearheaded by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the PhP637-million Ozamiz City Airport Development Project covers the construction of new landside facilities that are compliant with international standards.
This includes the construction of a new passenger terminal building, aircraft parking apron and taxiways for a more efficient operation of the airport.
Once completed, this project will increase the current capacity of the Ozamiz Airport from 300,000 to 1.5 million passengers a year.
The groundbreaking ceremony was witnessed by Department of National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Mindanao Development Authority (MinDa) Secretary Datu Abul Khayr Alonto, DOTr Undersecretary for Aviation and Airports Manuel Antonio Tamayo, CAAP Director General Jim Sydiongco, Misamis Occidental Governor Herminia Ramiro, and Misamis Occidental 2nd district Representative Henry Oaminal.
“Kapag natapos ang proyektong ito, inaasahan natin na mas maraming pasahero at cargo na ang kayang i-accommodate ng Ozamiz Airport. As President Rodrigo Duterte and DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade directed, ‘Make the Filipino life comfortable.’ Iyon po ang ginagawa namin, at patuloy pa naming gagawin,” Sydiongco said in his remarks.
Sydiongco further assured the airport development project would not have “any taint of corruption,” stressing that taxpayers’ money must be felt by the taxpayers themselves.
